Skills

Each person has their particular set of skills or something they're good at. Pretty much anything you can think of can be considered a skill, math, singing, writing, running, listening,  drawing, building things. There's no limit to an individual's skill set.
I consider my two strongest skills to be my ability to think creatively, and my ability to communicate while working.
Since I wish to pursue photojournalism in some way for my project I think my two top skills will come in handy... a picture is worth a thousand words after all.

The Juggling Act

The whole juggling act aspect of this project is definitely already stressing me out. Especially since I got a late start on the "formal" parts of this project. Although, I'm pretty content with where I'm at regarding my nonfiction book, and my research paper, wich makes me slightly less anxious about getting behind.  Once we get back from vacation, I plan on making tremendous progress with getting in contact with people and places sharing all the ideas I have.

Resume Writing

Being 17, and pretty inexperienced when it comes to the real working world I had sort of a difficult time displaying all of my skills in resume form. I've only had a few jobs before, and all of them include serving food to people, which has nothing to do with any of my life aspirations or goals for this project. With that being said, I'm glad there was an "additional skills" section in the resume template I filled out. I was at least able to show somewhere that I'm capable of more than scooping ice cream or folding napkins.

I chose to read "The Glass Castle," a memoir by Jeanette Walls. I'm enjoying it so far, because of the way Walls makes her far less than ideal family situation growing up sound beautiful; which is in a way what I want to be able to do with photojournalism. I want to be able to capture a beautiful story within an image, regardless of its superficial appeal.

I'm excited to write a research paper on photography for this project. I plan on doing research about lighting, framing, subject choice, and maybe even the history of photography. I think I will hugely benefit from learning so much about taking pictures.

Library Card

While visiting the Langley Adams Library, I had a flooding memory of the last time I was there, which was kindergarten field trip. My entire class and I were shown every section of the library, by the woman who was working at the front desk. Then after, we lined up in alphabetical order to receive our first ever library cards.
Considering that it's been around 12 years since I've been to the Langley Adams library, my memory of it was a little foggy. Thankfully, I had no trouble navigating through the various arrays of bookshelves on my own, since the sections are well organized. Also, as soon as I walked through the doors I was greeted by the librarian with a welcoming smile asking me if I needed help finding anything.
In conclusion, I would consider my library card experience a stress free and positive one.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Grace, I'm 17 years old, and I dream of one day being a professional photographer.
Ever since I was a little kid, I've wanted to explore every inch of this planet, discovering all of what it has to offer while taking pictures, displaying as much of it as I possibly can.
The following is a quote from a Photography book called "Places to go and People to See."
"Every time we click the shutter, a camera doesn' just capture a moment in time. It captures our moment in time. Photography aficionados that we are- take a peek at our art-filled salon walls and coffee tabled piled high with books - we've learned that amazing photos can happen both under the most artfully planned circumstances and by pure and crazy chance. They can express larger-than-life moments and shine a spotlight on tiny details that we can remember forever. Whatever our point of view is, we like to make it an inspired one."

I'm not positive what my project is going to be, but my goal is to inspire by sharing my point of view with others in the community while empowering others.
